Rebecca Ley

Rebecca Ley, sophomoreRebecca Ley Sr. Photo in business marketing with a minor in event management, plays an important role in the Start Something College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) office as a student assistant. Ley, the youngest of four siblings, grew up just south of Ames in Alleman, Iowa. Growing up so close to Iowa State made it feel like home to Ley. "I didn't really know what I wanted to study, but I knew I wanted to be close to family, because family is very important to me," she explains.

Ley became involved in Start Something CALS programs shortly after arriving at ISU, joining ISU's National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) her freshman year. "My favorite memory was participating in NAMA my freshman year. I absolutely love the competition team and being able to compete at Nationals with a plan we created from scratch as a class," she relates.

As a sophomore, Ley is again participating in NAMA while also working as an Start Something CALS student assistant. As a student assistant, she works closely with the Start Something CALS program coordinator, Marcie Fahn, to complete various projects. Ley also serves on the Start Something CALS student leadership team, helping to plan events and spread the word about Start Something CALS programs.

Ley has spent her past summers working at Everts, a local flower shop, and as a nanny/babysitter for children. "I am very passionate about teaching kids and guiding them in the right direction for growth," Ley remarks. She is excited to grow herself academically at Iowa State and looks forward to securing an internship for the summer of 2020.

In her free time, Ley loves to shop or spend time with her dogs, Shadow and Penny. She also enjoys spending time in the water during the summer.

We are very grateful to have Ley serving the Start Something CALS office as a student assistant and look forward to watching her excel at ISU over the next several years!
