Larame Boysen

Feature Story

Larame Boysen, junior majoring in AgriLarame Boysen cultural Business with a minor in Entrepreneurship, grew up on the grain and livestock family farm in Columbus Jct., Iowa. During his childhood, he enjoyed showing livestock at all levels of competition. When it came time to choose a college, Boysen was drawn to Iowa State's excellent Agricultural Business program as well as the in-state tuition and relative proximity to home. He has stayed busy at Iowa State, joining Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, the Interfraternity Council's executive team, helping with ISU Bacon Expo, and cheering on the Cyclones as "Cy the Cardinal" with the ISU Spirit Squad

AgEI has also played a role in Boysen's time as a Cyclone. "AgEI has opened the door to many unique experiences for me. It has allowed me to travel abroad and study international agriculture through their internship program as well as study entrepreneurship as a minor," he explains. Boysen is currently a student in Econ 334, Entrepreneurship in Agriculture, where students develop a comprehensive feasibility study for a new business or non-profit organization. "I chose to take Econ 334 because I saw the opportunity agriculture presents through my global travel and this class gives you the tools to exploit those opportunities," he relates.

The business Boysen developed in Econ 334 is called Stock Market, an online based marketplace that helps breeders and genetic producers make decisions and better serve their customers. "My favorite part about Econ 334 is the flexibility and option to mold each assignment around your interest. It's not like a regular class where the instructor tells you exactly what the material is. You have the opportunity to learn about the industry and market you enjoy," Boysen elaborates.

Outside of the classroom, Boysen has held multiple internships. During his freshman summer, he worked for FS Bioenergia in Lucas Do Rio Verde, Brazil as the Plant Operations and Commercial Management intern. This past summer, he worked as the Show Feed Sales and Marketing Intern for Kent Nutrition Group in Muscatine, Iowa. In his free time, he enjoys riding ATVs and hanging out with family and friends.

After graduation, Boysen would like to obtain his master's degree in Agricultural Economics or Business Administration.

We wish him all the best on his future endeavors!
