Brent Foster, junior in Agricultural Systems Technology (AST) and Industry Technology, hails from Riverside, Iowa. He grew up training horses and working on the family farm. Foster attended Mid-Prairie High School, where he was active in both FFA and 4-H, showing horses, cattle, goats, and home improvement projects at the fair.
Although Foster's loyalty lies with the Hawkeyes, Iowa State's strong AST program and agriculture community drew him to Ames. He's made the most of his time as a Cyclone, participating in AST Club, Industrial Tech Club, Agronomy club, and Beginning Farmers Network Club along with serving as an AST peer mentor. He's active in his church group and plays in slow pitch softball, football, dodgeball, and basketball intramurals.
Foster has also found time in his busy schedule to participate in AgEI programs. He is currently serving on the AgEI Student Leadership Team and has participated in the Change-Maker Academy for the past two years. His role on the leadership team involves redesigning events and activities to attract more students.
"I joined AgEI so that I could learn about agricultural entrepreneurs and how I could develop business plans. I was then able to learn more about other aspects of a business," explains Foster.
"My favorite AgEI memory was when we came up with pitches during one of the Change-Maker Academy meetings last year. I also really enjoy going to Bruce Rastetter's home during our Christmas party," relates Foster.
Foster has held two internships in the past. In 2018, he was a welder for Bazooka Farmstar, and he served as a Manufacturing Engineer on the Continuous Improvement Team for Bazooka Farmstar this past summer.
We thank him for all of his hard work on the AgEI leadership team and wish him the best of luck as he continues with his academic career!
