Ben Thomas

Ben Thomas, majoring in agricultural business with a minor in entrepreneurial studies, doesn't share the typical farm background common to many agricultural business students. Growing up in Pella, Iowa, Thomas stayed busy playing football, baseball, and wrestling. It wasn't until he joined FFA in high school that his interest in agriculture truly blossomed.

Family tradition and the strong agricultural programs offered led Thomas to attend Iowa State University. Upon arrival, he quickly became involved with Start Something College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). "I got involved with Start Something CALS because I have always thought small businesses are very interesting. I also grew up around family members who are entrepreneurial and learning how to think and make decisions like them was cool," states Thomas. He currently serves on the Start Something CALS Student Leadership Team, a nine-student team who helps guide Start Something CALS programming.

Thomas explains, "My favorite Start Something CALS memory has been making connections with both students and individuals involved with the program and the alumni of the program as well!"

Thomas has held two internships since coming to college. He served as a sales agronomist intern with Key Cooperative in the summer of 2018 and is currently a credit analyst intern with VisionBank of Iowa

After graduation, Thomas would like to acquire a job in the financial industry to work with farmers. He is also engaged to his high school sweetheart, Kayleen, and they plan to get married next summer.

We wish him all the best on his future endeavors!
